Our week in Newport.

Spending a week, well 4 nights anyway, of Summer like weather in January was great.  Good weather at the coast anytime of the year is what we enjoy.  After getting home we kind of shifted into vacationing mode.  Here are some pictures from the week.

The first outing of 2014

So after days of fog we decided to take Smokey out of lockup and run away to the Coast.   We picked up Smokey around 9:30 and brought him home.   I un winterized everything and Sophie put things together inside.  I had my teeth cleaned and headed to the Coast around 2PM.   Once we left home the sun was out and we had a very nice drive.  In Lincoln City the weather was warm.  We did some shopping and then drove to Newport.  No one was here so we pulled into our favorite spot, hooked up water, elect, cable TV and settled in for supper and watching the sun go down.

LED lights in the RV

Since I have been playing with LED lights I offered to order some direct replacement bulbs for the 1156 bulbs in most of our RV lights.   Here are some pictures of how they look in use.
The bottom one is the old style ones used for many years.  They do get hot when in use.   Then above that is a 13 LED 5050 SMD light bulb.  It has a blue color to it.   Then at the top is a 18 LED 5050 SMD light.   This gave me the most light and white color that I was looking for.  And at the cost of $1.55 it fits my budget.
The 13 LED light on left and regular light on right.  You can see the blue color.
This is the 13 LED on left and 18 LED on right.
Original lights.
18 LED's.  More light less power and heat.

Towing a car behind a MH

Plenty of info out there but I believe this is the real info.
Towed Motor Vehicle Brake Requirements By State

This table documents statutory requirements pertaining to brakes on a motor vehicle in tow behind a motorhome or other vehicle in non-commercial applications.
Information was compiled from an analysis of each state's published statutes pertaining to motor vehicle brakes.
Note that this a layman's interpretation of the statutes, not expert opinion. It is presented for information only.
Comments regarding errors in this data are welcome. Email Link

Summary:

  • Five states; Alaska, Florida, Nevada, North Carolina and Wisconsin, have a verified brake requirement based on the towed vehicle weight.
  • Most states have a general performance requirement based on stopping distance from 20 mph. Those apply to all vehicles or to combinations of vehicles.
  • Three states; Hawaii, North Dakota and District of Columbia, have statutes that are not available online and therefore are not tabulated.

Happy new year

Ringing in the new year at the Keizer elks lodge with friends.  There was a gathering for supper at our house followed by a trip to the lodge with dancing and then breakfast to start the new year.
Today I took both of my Winnebagos out.  Yeah not at the same time.   I will be changing the accelerator nozzle on Smokey to see if that cleans up the acceleration from an idle.   Other than that I think the carb is working better than ever.

The Holley carb continued.

So I have a Holley street Advenger, and since someone who didn't really understand it (even less than I know) installed this carb I have been fixing it.  First was to install the correct spring and holder to make the transmission kickdown linkage work.  And then adjust the carb so it would open fully when I pushed the gas peddle  down.  Something that might be good going up a big hill.

I have been cleaning up some of the emission hoses that were in the way.  Now the last part is the clip to hold the kickdown rod on the carb.  And I picked that up today.  Maybe this week before Christmas I just might take it for a drive and see how it works.

Have a Holley jolly Christmas.

Today was a trip to the Oregon State Capitol for one of our nephews school chior programs.
And the tree looked great again this year.

And for the Holley carb in Smokey, I have been getting an education.  What I thought was a model 4180 turned out to be a replacement carb called an Advenger 670.  Kind of an upgrade but this explaines why the throttle cable was not quite right when I got it.
This is what I have.  And with some more knowledge I just might get things working better.
