Newport, OR

Yesterday we went to the Toledo farmers market/street sale.  It was just like the last time we were there with sidewalk sales.  We did find a great place to eat this time.  It is a coffee shop, bakery and restaurant all in one.  Sasifras Sue's is only open from 6 to 3 but we had a great salad that came with a fresh cookie and biscite.  We will stop again next time we are in town.

Then today were took in the biggest tourist atraction on the Coast, the dock that floated from Japan and landed on the Oregon Coast in Agate beach.

Guess who took this picture????

Then this evening I took a walk across the street from the Elks Lodge to the school yard and looked at the new artificial turf baseball field. Guess they don't want me to fly my toy airplane on it.

Newport OR day 2

Today started out with sunny weather and just got warmer as the day went on. The first problem on this trip hit when the TV remote needed new batteries, oh I hate it when that happens.  A trip to the dollar store has us stocked up for awhile in batteries.  We did a little walk on the beach and then met some Winnebago friends for lunch.  Since they haven't spent as much time on the Coast as Sophie and I, we were their tour guides for the afternoon.

Yahats OR beach.
About 25 minles South of Newport is town of Yahats.  This part of the Coast is a great place to park the motorhome and look at the Ocean.  We did find out that there is a Sales Tax in this town.  Whatever it takes to pay the bills.

From the top of Cape Perpetua.
We drove to the top of Cape Perpetua and enjoyed the view.  On a day like today you can see forever.

Then down at the water.
Can you see the water spash up on the rocks.

After seeing all of the beauty we had to stop for coffee on the way back to Newport or we would have fallen asleep.

Newport Oregon

One thing on our to do list was get a $2.00 breakfast at the Chinook Winds Casino Buffet.  All you need to do is be 55 or older and get a Boomer card to get the special buffet from 8 - 11AM on Tuesdays.  Other times when we were in the area there has been a very long line to get in but this time we waited and got in.  We have gotten a deal at the Casino Hotel restaurant with a $2.95 eggs, toast, bacon, hasbrows and coffee for a Boomer deal, and that was good but the buffet is even better.  Omlets and all the good stuff you can eat is one great deal.

So after the buffet we packed up and drove to Newport.  At the Elks we found 1/2 the spaces empty (thats 4 of the 8 spaces empty).  So we hooked up to water, elect and cable TV.  After 3 nights without TV it will be nice to see whats going on in the world.  We did watch some movies on DVD last night but we like the news.

The big weather news is that the sun is shining and we can see the ocean and bridge from our windows at the Lodge.

This is the view from out front door.  The Elks Lodge is on the left and the Hwy 101 bridge and blue
water is visiable beyond it.

The weather this evening was so good we went for a drive and just sat and watched the boats going in and out of the bay.

It's been one year since......................

One year ago today is the day my mom passed away.  Not really anything to celebrate but still something to remember.
The weather in Lincoln City was wet last night and some rain this morning, but it ended up being dry and very little wind.  We had time to relax and set on the beach.  Thats what we like doing....except for the time Sophie spent at the factory outlet mall.
The wagon even got to play in the sand too.
Most of my pictures are larger than what you see so click on them once or twice to see them larger.

If you have never Casino Camped before the Chinook Winds Casino is a great place to start.  We have spent time in several Casinos in the Northwest.  Here in Lincoln City you don't have to check in and you can even get FREE WIFI if you know the name and password.  I ask at the security desk and was told to use "cwcr" and "play4fun".  This might change but just ask.  And to dump the holding tanks there is a place in the Taft area to dump for FREE.  Now getting water you are on your own.  I have gotten some from a guy painting a building in town.  He was washing out some paint brushes and I just ask to use the hose and he said sure.

Here in the RV lot are all kinds of RV's.........5th wheel and bumper tow trailers, 40' diesel and smaller motor homes........and even some "Classic Winnebagos".

The view of the ocean can change as people like to park along the edge of the lot.

And for Cliff and Susie who thought the weather was going to be wet.................it really wasn't bad.

CCR revisited ???

6/23/12
Hey with the house sitters on the job we headed out again for the Spirit Mountain Casino.  We saw CCR again and when I looked back in my Blog it has been over 3 years since we last saw them.  It was January 2009.  Does that make it Credence Clearwater Revisited Revisited????How can the time fly by so fast.
So we took our family and our son-in-laws mom and my oldest brother and wife came.  CCR is a concert to see if you like old time rock N roll.  They play it the same way it was meant to be played.

Then we checked out the RV parking and found the code pad to the dump station is gone so you don't need to mess with a code and now they have a place to get fresh water close to the dump station.  Wow talk about full service.

This is the Spirit Mtn Casino water station.  It's FREE water and dump.
You can stay for 72 without playing games.  Longer if you  play the games enough.

My oldest brothers Bounder next to Wilbur.

6/34/12
Then we drove to the beach   ( Chinook Winds Casino) Sunday after eating lunch.  The weather was wet on the way over but here at the beach it was sunny and not windy.  So we spent time on the beach.

Why yes I am retired.

AAWWW thats so cute.
Now we are just setting around waiting for the sun to set on a beautiful day.

Our campsite on the coast.  Hey its FREE and we have FREE soft drinks, coffee and WIFI.
Oh yea there is a ocean view too.

Happy Birthday

My little girl has a birthday today.  OK so she is 24 but still my little girl.
We took her out for dinner at a place that has a burger on the menu named after my motor home.
Check out the third burger on the list.  Yup that's Wilbur's Burger.

And this place had a great urinal.

I guess that this is either a left or right hand flusher.

Getting ready to hit the road

Today was a day to change the oil on Wilbur and before I could do that I needed to warm Wilbur up, so I went and got a trailer load of wood chips,  and then another trailer load.   Well that was enough of a warm up for Wilbur so I drained the oil and changed the oil filter and filled it up with fresh new oil.  I am always amazed that it takes 7 quarts of oil.  And it even drips some oil between changes so it likes it's oil.

Then my son wanted to drive up in the hills to a place where we have taken guns and shot potatoes and a variety of targets.  I kind of like shooting potatoes since they are a starchy vegetables and I shouldn't eat so many.  Speaking of which I have lost 20 pounds now on weight watchers.

My wife and my son's fiance even shot the guns.  First time for both of them to shoot anything

So tomorrow I will spend more time on Wilbur checking brake fluid and most everything else that I usually check.  Then on Saturday we plan to take off for a week or so.  This will give us a chance to see how the house sitters work out.

House sitters

Some of you know that our son moved to Phoenix, AZ a couple of years ago and now is moving back to Oregon with his fiance.   They are our house sitters for the Summer,  or however long it takes to find a place to work and live.
Almost got the car off the trailer.

Here they are after a long drive.  You can see Wilbur in the background...ready to go.

Sophie gives them the rules.

Milwaukie, OR

What in the world would make anyone want to build the statue of libery in Milwaukie?

This is one reason why we travel around looking around towns.  You never know what you will find.

And right next to the Elks lodge is a glass shop.  At least it looked like a glass shop.

And then you do need to read the signs.  Maybe the pets didn't stay out of the flowers
You can click on the pictures to make them larger.

We did have a good time at the Elks Lodge where we danced and had supper.  Only been married 36 years today.

And we walked on the Trolley Trail.

The Bomber

Today is Sophies first day unemployed, or I mean not working anymore for money.
We are on a big road trip to Milwaukie, OR probably 40 miles  from home.  The Elks Lodge is a couple of blocks from a landmark WW2 Bomber.  Take a look.

It's almost Summer

After the WIT Rally in Moses Lake, WA we have stayed around home while my wife finishes up work, I think she has one more day this week to show up at some kind of work related meeting.  And then we have been doing yard work.  I am not sure we will get the load of bark dust this week because it started raining and looks like it will be raining most of the week.  Oh well there is always next week but we plan to take off for a few days.
Maybe our house sitters could do the bark dust????????

I still remember one day in Lincoln City, OR when we woke up to flags around Wilbur.
This is at the Chinook Winds Casino.  We are ready for a trip to the coast again.

And when Wilbur can't go anymore we might just settle down and park for a few years.
